All Them Witches released *Dying Surfer Meets His Maker* in 2015 as their debut on New West Records. The album was recorded in a remote cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where the band lived and worked for five days. This third studio album marks a significant turning point in the Nashville-based band’s career, both in terms of popularity and artistic direction. Musically, the album sits at the crossroads of psychedelic rock, blues and stoner rock, yet the band surprisingly manages to avoid all the clichés of these genres. Instead of the typical Sabbath-style worship that characterises much stoner rock, All Them Witches create a sound of their own that relies heavily on atmosphere and improvisation. The album stands out for its cinematic quality and its ability to build a world of its own – a timeless place where the listener can lose themselves. The band makes clever use of the violin and harmonica alongside the traditional guitars and drums, contributing to a rootsy feel that feels more shamanic than straightforward rock. Bassist and vocalist Charles Michael Parks Jr. takes on an unconventional role, with his vocal lines floating in and out of the music with remarkable restraint.
