Swedish hard rock veterans The Quill are releasing their 2026 studio album *Master of the Skies* via Metalville, on which they combine groove, power, melody and raw energy with a darker edge than before. The album navigates between light and shadow, striking a balance between restraint and explosive energy – it is heavier yet nuanced, more sombre without sacrificing swing, and evokes the gravitas of Black Sabbath and the swagger of classic heavy rock. The album was recorded at 491 Studios with Erik Nilsson, who knows their sound inside out, and reflects the band’s hard-earned confidence after more than 35 years. They write authentic heavy rock that stands on its own, without chasing trends or nostalgia. The Quill feel completely at home in their own style and allow songs to develop their own identity through collaboration within the band and experimentation in the studio, creating natural contrasts and atmosphere. Singer Magnus Ekwall emphasises that light and darkness define the push-pull dynamic, whilst guitarist Christian Carlsson notes that they avoid a forced sound in order to tread unknown paths. Bassist Roger Nilsson highlights the collective shaping of songs, and drummer Jolle Atlagic attributes the album’s movement to trial and error. This LP confirms their mastery and proves that the sky remains the limit.
