“Distortion Unit” by Nixon Now is a hard-hitting garage rock album released in 2018. The album reflects the band’s long-standing dedication to loud, uncompromising rock ’n’ roll, built around fuzz-heavy guitars, driving rhythms and a confrontational energy reminiscent of the spirit of the classic Detroit protopunk scene. The album’s sound is raw and powerful, combining a protopunk attitude with energetic hard rock, hints of heavy psychedelia and a rugged garage rock texture. It doesn’t sound retro, but comes across as direct and authentic, with a powerful, unpolished approach that emphasises volume, momentum and a relentless swagger.
