Earth has had a profound influence on modern music – from experimental metal and electronic/ambient to stoner rock – and has inspired artists ranging from SUNN O))) and The Bug to Godflesh. Earth’s story was chronicled in the acclaimed 2023 documentary *Even Hell Has Its Heroes*. Earth’s third album, “Pentastar: In the Style of Demons” from 1996, is a classic of sluggish riff worship, brimming with a thick, distorted sludge in which Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Hendrix, drone and ambient music merge. The result feels like a long, lonely drive through the desert, with inner and/or outer space as the sole destination. Arguably the band’s most rock-oriented album, “Pentastar: In the Style of Demons” features the timeless hit single “Tallahassee”.
