*Primitive Ring* is the debut album by the Los Angeles-based power trio, comprising Bert Hoover on bass and vocals, Charles Moothart on guitar and vocals, and Jon Modaff on drums, released in 2026 via In the Red Recordings. This power garage and psych rock album captures the raw, primal essence of the band, which was formed in September 2024 as a creative outlet for these seasoned musicians from projects such as Fuzz, Gøggs, Hooveriii and Groop. Recorded by Mark Rains at The Station House in Echo Park, the album runs just under 42 minutes and features 11 tracks, weaving together diverse writing styles into a collective vision that evokes the archetypal rhythm of a freight train and the communal energy of rock ’n’ roll. The record embodies a creation myth of creation and destruction, where egos are shed and new limbs grow in a flash of sound. Hauling amplifiers to bars has forged their brotherhood, resulting in a timeless tapestry of riff-shredding intensity, proto-metal garage sludge and electric humanity. It is an artefact hurled at the audience, reminding listeners of the surreal, urgent power of rock amidst modern primal instincts.
