"Return To Sky" is a dense piece of intensely experimental, yet rousing instrumental rock. Each of the album’s five epics is a microcosm of what the band’s genre-spanning psychedelia is capable of, taking the whole thing in a different direction each time. Heavy, down-tuned riffs open up into pastoral soundscapes; a fluid minimalism that swells into crescendos and then recedes. More than any other album in CAUSA SUI’s catalogue, “Return To The Sky” leans towards the roots of late-nineties avant-rock, in which various genres blend into something that is as much of this world as it is of the next. It also becomes clear here that the band members have been active in a wide variety of projects since the CAUSA SUI debut was released in 2005: solo forays into synth music, collaborations with members of SUNBURNED HAND OF MAN and TORTOISE, as well as film soundtracks, guest appearances with FAUST or DAMO SUZUKI, and various improv sessions. Never before have CAUSA SUI sounded as profound and hypnotic as they do here.
